For countries which have received WHO validation for Elimination of Mother-To-Child Transmission (EMTCT) of syphilis, countries have achieved a:

  • Case rate of congenital syphilis of ≤50 per 100 000 live births
  • Population-level antenatal care (ANC) coverage (at least one visit) of ≥95%
  • Coverage of syphilis testing among pregnant women attending antenatal care of ≥95%
  • Quality standards for the four foundational requirements for validation, which includes: data; laboratory; program; human rights, gender equality and community engagement
